In 2002, An Yan (played by Tong Liya), who had just graduated, was assigned to teach at Changzhi County Peace Middle School. Born in the city, she struggled to adapt to the teaching environment and philosophy of rural schools at first. However, with the in-depth relationship with students and home visits, An Yan gradually realized the importance of rural education and felt the value of "being needed". Under the inspiration of the old principal Khotan and the current principal Fu Shengzhi (played by Kang Aishi), she comprehended and inherited the educational concepts of "keeping" and "incubating", and grew into a well-known excellent teacher. In 2012, An Yan served as the vice principal in charge of logistics at Heping Middle School to promote the implementation of "nutritious lunch". In 2016, An Yan was appointed as the principal of the relocated school.
